French in Plain Sight
Франция
Добавлен 18 апр 2017
Bonjour !
I'm Alex, an English guy living in Montpellier, France. I help English-speaking intermediate-level French learners in order to take control of the learning process so that they can speak French with confidence!
I came here because my instincts told me that learning a language could be an enriching experience. It certainly is! Several years later, I'm still learning every day, and have become fluent in French by TAKING CONTROL of the learning process.
I believe wholeheartedly in a holistic approach to language learning, and if you let me, I will show you through my videos how my mind works, and more importantly, how to make sense of French grammar and the process of learning the French language :).
From now until Feb 6 2024, join my private community for intermediate learners wanting to smash through the intermediate plateau and speak with confidence. Limited spots: bit.ly/41NSrzJ
À bientôt,
Alex

Alex, you speak too fast.

Je suis un débutant qui apprend le français, mais je voulais dire que votre prononciation de "parler" est ce à quoi j'aspire.
Very helpful. Merci.
Great video, very helpful! Ive found that they seem to use bref where we might say basically.... would you agree?
Je ne sais pas dont copy my flow no just lea e me alone and go dont copy my flowno just leave me alone and go😊
Cimer, mec.
Is grand-chose only used in the negative?
J’aimerais plus de vidéos de ce genre
Ça te dit d'étudier le vendredi. Non, samedi ça me dit
Thank you dear
but same time they feel shame isn't??
Je ne sais pas dont copy my flow just leave me alone and go!!
I lived in France for 18 months and learned French there. I always had to use hand gestures when I said "dessus" and "dessous."
She dealt with the Aliens 3 times.. nothing is difficile for Ripley - or for Chuck Norris for that matter....
merci c'est tres utile!
I don't find any of those words rude, or I'm used to it. I think the French are actually far more polite than people in the UK or the USA.
moi, faire, avoir
Merci!❤
Merci beaucoup Monsieur, tres utile video. Mais, j'ai une question. A cet exemple: "Elle m'a parle de toutes ses plantes et de celles de son mari" ; why is it de celles de, and not "des" celles de? Thank you!
"Tien" can also be translated in English as "by the way" in many instances, or to indicate that you are changing the topic: "Tien, tu as vu la meteo?" = By the way, have you seen the weather forecast?" No one is asking you to physically hold anything (even though "tien" does indeed derive from the verb "tenir" which means to hold.
Am I correct in thinking 'Qu'est-ce que' in spoken french is pronounced as 'qest-qu'
It's weird because even as I'm typing this post I'm doubting the quality of my English. What you said about tying your sense of self-worth to the quality of the language you speak is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. But how do you get rid of that sense of failure? Personally whenever I meet a fellow foreigner who speaks better English I just want to curl up in a corner and cry. Okay maybe it's not that bad but almost. I like your channel, keep up the good work!
Do you realise that you never gave examples of what French subjunctives sound like?
Seems way easier than the à's
Thank you for making this video
I've listened to all of them. You're one of the BEST!!
I love this, merci beacoup
I found this a very helpful video. I’ve often got overwhelmed and bogged down trying to get the grammar right, feeling self conscious of making mistakes. Nice to hear about your journey and experiences. Many thanks
I live in france for two years now and have followed many french courses. Also alliance français, français avec pierre and lots more. You are definitely the better teacher to understand. You make it all so easy, the way you explain things. Thank you
Savez-vous que mr Anthony Blienken parle parfaitement fraçais

Bonjour Alex. C'est genial.
This is very helpful👍🏾
Je te prends quelque part!!!!! Will definitely be keeping that in mind! 😂
Hold my beer 🍺
I am absolute beginner 😊, bit I do understand struggles with learning new language and expect struggles and problems. I do think the learning will be awful experience. I have started learning it yesterday. I am somewhat familiar with French history and culture, but never was trully or deeply interested in learning the language. I prefered learning Germanic langauges, when I was younger, they are more orderly and more constructed than French, besides, it did not sound much romantic, on the contrary. I do not have big expectations, but I really think it would be fun to try and see what it will come out of this learning and will I be able to adapt and learn it, after learning English, Dutch, and German.
Definitely not. The French mentality and way of life is different and for many, really shocking, according to my experiences. Their honesty, temperament, and fight for what they think are right things and freedoms is what is the most probable cause of the all problems, and it can be tiresome, but I do think it is important part of their culture and why they should be respected. At least for being different
I realised a few days ago that I've been using 'ne t'inquiete pas' incorrectly all this time! I have no idea why but I've been saying it something like this 'ne quitter pas'! How embarrassing!
